In Term 3 our visitors to Westlake included former student, MP Naisi Chen, and speakers to Fashion Technology classes, Morgan Klyn (2016), who graduated from AUT in 2019, and Ella Brewer, (2021), who is studying at Whitecliffe.

Naisi Chen, MP, (2011) visited the Year 9 STEAM class in August. She is the second-youngest MP, at 26 years of age, and is based in Botany after being elected on the Labour List in the 2020 election.   As an MP, Naisi serves as the Deputy Chair of the Economic Development, Science and Innovation Select Committee as well as being a member of the Governance and Administration Select Committee.

Naisi has a BA/LLB from the University of Auckland. Before entering Parliament, she worked as an employment law consultant and public servant. She is also a former Board Member of Foundation North, the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra and the Aotearoa Chinese Legal Support Foundation.

She is also a former President of the New Zealand Chinese Students' Association and has sat on the Youth Advisory Group of Philanthropy NZ. At Westlake, Naisi was very involved in cultural activities including Symphony and Chamber Orchestras and Concert Band and was active on the Cultural and Chinese committees.
